Our state-of-the-art digital restoration factory

We have made extensive investment in restoration at The Chimney Pot’s facilities, in equipment and staff to get to where we are today. We apply scalable, measured and cost effective solutions for film production and restoration projects. From the integrated use of the full range of our master edit facilities, to real-time and manual restoration of re-scanned 2K feature films - including noise reduction, grading and dust busting - as well as to converting and restoring video masters in legacy formats.

Our services include the use of Nucoda Phoenix systems, Arri 2K datascanning, 35mm film out and HDSR mastering.

Our sound department includes the use of maintained player/recorders for multiple analogue formats with the necessary equipment to re-master soundtracks and output to current digital formats, including use of the latest audio restoration software. For more challenging issues with sound or picture, we also have the ability to apply the use of special custom software for major repair and restoration projects.

2K restoration process & workflow

1. Analyzing and listing of all available and varying sources (original negatives, prints, types of splice in negatives, IN or IP, optical effects that may need to be redone, titles and end credits to be done, sound and audio materials etc.)
2. Scanning to 10-bit log DPX files using Arri scanners and Kodak Digital ICE software (IR scanning pass)
3. Dust bust and scratch removal using Nucoda DVO's
4 Manual checking and correction of automatic dustbust
5. Manual fixing of jumps in neg splices, large in-frame artifacts etc.
6. Grading
7. Manual re-production of titles and end credits
7. Recording to HDSR 4:4:4 and archive on LOT of 2K master
8. Sound also goes through the same restoration workflow. We digitize and noice reduce, repair and edit wherever necessary. If client wish we use current software solutions to create a 5.1 mix from the old stereo or mono tracks. Both the stereo/mono and the 5:1 mix are then mastered to HDSR.
